General
Are your products really natural?
Yes. We only use ingredients that are 100% naturally derived and are certified as such to COSMOS standards. Many of our ingredients are also certified organic. Every single one of our products is certified by the Soil Association as an independent guarantee that they are as natural and organic as we say they are.
Are Odylique products suitable for sensitive skin?
Odylique products are formulated specifically for sensitive skin. 30 years ago we set out to create skincare that was gentle, yet effective on those whose is sensitive and / or allergy-prone. We use exclusively natural ingredients both for their bio-available nutrients and skin-compatibility, and we avoid common allergens like tree-nut oils, soy or wheat. Odylique products have many years of proven use on sensitive skin and we test new products on a panel of sensitive-skin volunteers. That said, everyone is different, people can still be allergic to natural ingredients and so we always recommend patch-testing each product for 24-hours before use. Many products are available in accessibly-priced sample sizes for that purpose.
Are your products Vegan?
Mostly. The only ingredients we use that are classed as non-vegan are honey (in the Honey & Oat Cleansing Bar) and beeswax (in some balms). We also only use organic beeswax and honey from trusted suppliers who don’t practice unethical or cruel methods of harvesting. All of our products are suitable for vegetarians.
Are your products Cruelty-Free?
100%. We are PETA accredited and only ever test our products on willing human volunteers. We use a fixed cut-off date for ingredient testing that is prior to the company's launch (2001).
Is Odylique fragrance free?
We use no artificial fragrance whatsoever in Odylique formulations. A large number of Odylique products are also essential oil free for those who either prefer neutrally-scented skincare or whose skin has been previously sensitised by artificial fragrances. Where we use essential oils, they are certified organic, pure and used in appropriate dilutions.
Are your products PH balanced?
Our skin’s naturally protective ‘acid mantle’ is generally between pH 5-6. All our products are formulated to closely support this balance as well as the all-important natural moisturising factor (NMF) and barrier function of the skin. Our pure organic cleansing bars naturally have a slightly higher, more neutral pH (around that of water) due to the saponification process which releases moisturising glycerine from the rich botanical oils for gentle, non-drying and detergent-free cleansing.
How are Odylique products preserved?
Our products are conserved with a synergistic blend of natural botanical extracts and natural stabilisers. We don't use parabens, phenoxyethanol, MI, potassium sorbate or sodium benzoate. Odylique products don’t actually contain ‘preservatives’ as such; they can be described as ‘preservative-free’ - they simply contain natural ingredients with stabilising and antimicrobial properties.
Do you offer samples?
Yes. Many products are available in accessibly-priced sample sizes here.
Packaging
Why don't you use glass bottles for all your products to cut down on your plastic consumption?
Although we try to cut down as much as our single use plastic consumption as possible, it is very difficult to go completely plastic free. For some products, such as our shampoo, a glass bottle just isn't practical or safe in a slippery shower / bath area. That said, where we can replace plastic for glass we have done so. Many of our plastic bottles are also made from at least 50% recycled materials.

What are the white nuggets you use as parcel packing?
The FLO nuggets that protect your products in transit are made from corn starch and are entirely biodegradeable. You can put them in the compost or put them in a sink and add water to dissolve them.
How do you empty the last bit of product from the glass bottles?
When you reach the end of your moisturiser bottle, if the pump doesn't evacuate the product fully, you can take the pump out, invert the bottle and pat the product down (or store upside-down and lift the product out from the next with the dip-tube of the pump.
Ingredients
Are your products gluten free?
All of our products are wheat free.
We use organic oats in the Honey and Oat Cleansing Bar and Maca Mask.
Are there grains in your products?
Although we do not include wheat in our products, some of our products do contain oats. Our 3-in-1 Maca Mask and Honey & Oat Cleansing Bar contain oats that gently exfoliate and soothe the skin.
Is the coconut oil in your products comedogenic?
No! Coconut oil is actually termed a ‘dry’ oil and contains a unique blend of antibacterial fatty acids shown to be highly effective at controlling acne-forming bacteria and together with other actives, is a great ingredient in a product formulated for the care of oily and acne-prone skin. You may have read online that coconut oil is pore-blocking - however, like many claims you read online, there appears no scientific basis to this at all.
Do you use palm oil in your products?
No. We have never used palm oil as an ingredient in any Odylique products. We do use a couple of ingredients that may use palm oil as an input material, for example, the emulsifiers cetearyl glucoside or cetearyl alcohol, which are largely derived from corn sugar and or coconut. We have sought assurance from our suppliers that if they are at certain times obliged to use palm oil as a feeder material, it is from a certified sustainable (RSPO) source. This is also a requirement of our organic certification along with a guarantee of no genetically modified ingredients.
Pregnancy
Are your products safe to use during pregnancy?
With the exception of our Muscle Ease Massage Oil and Mosimix Body Oil, which are particularly potent due to their essential oil content, all of our products are suitable for use during pregnancy. If in any doubt, please consult your doctor.
Skin Conditions
I have impetigo - what cleanser should I use?
Go for a cleanser which is not resistant to the bacteria involved or will leave an imbalance in your skin’s natural defence system. Tea tree is an amazing skin-friendly antibacterial and we suggest a regime based on this to try and break the cycle of infection and encourage healing. We would recommend our Lemon and Tea Tree Purifying Wash – a wash-off cleanser to use morning and evening. Follow this with Odylique Spot-on Serum (SOS) applied sparingly with clean fingers (washing them well afterwards to avoid spreading the infection).
Is it normal to break out after new skin care?
Whilst it isn’t usual with our products, it is possible to experience breakouts after using a deep-cleansing mask as it draws out toxins from the skin. In fact many beauty experts suggest avoiding a detox mask within a few days of a big occasion for this reason!
Hair
What do you recommend for coloured hair?
Regular colouring does tend to make the scalp and hair shaft more dry and porous, so we would recommend a combination of one of our gentle sulphate-free shampoos and one of our all-natural award-winning conditioners. Our shampoos and conditioners are high in antioxidants which will help reduce colour fading as well as being rich in aloe vera to tackle the dryness.
Which shampoo do you recommend for an itchy scalp?
Although all of our shampoos are suitable for irritated scalps. They are bursting with organic herbal ingredients and coconut oil which nourish and soothe. Tea Tree & Herb Shampoo is well suited to flaky and itchy scalps, particularly if greasy, whereas for dry itchy scalps try either of our Gentle Herb Shampoos or Hydrating Lavender Shampoo.
Makeup
How often should I change my mascara?
Because our eyelashes are home to many microscopic bugs and the wand is then put back into the product, mascara is more prone to contamination than many products. For this reason, it is recommended to change mascara after 4 months, which is the 'period after opening' indicated within the open jar symbol on the box. Although many people use mascara for longer than this without a problem, it is really a wise precaution to discard after the recommended time (or sooner if you have had an eye or eyelid infection) and certainly if there is any sign of eye irritation.
Product Specific
Do I use Superfruit Concentrate before or after I moisturise?
Superfruit Concentrate is a facial oil therefore it works best on slightly moist skin. By applying it on top of your moisturiser it will allow for optimum absorption of both products, locking in maximum hydration
Why isn't your sunscreen SPF50?
A sunscreen with an SPF of 15 will protect you against 93% of UVB rays whilst an SPF of 30 will protect you from 97%. Anything higher than this often gives people the wrong idea that they are being protected significantly more – SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB rays, not much more than SPF 30!
What is the UVA star rating of your sun screen?
Our Natural Sun Screen doesn’t carry the old Boots star rating, but complies with the now widely used UVA PA system. According to EU legislation, a sunscreen has to achieve the ratio of at least 1/3 of the SPF in order to use the UVA in a circle symbol (like we do on our packaging). This signifies in the case of high SPF (ie from 30-50), an equally high level of UVA protection.
