Flaky Scalp
A flaky dry scalp is often the result of damage to the scalp by chemical irritants. Harsh shampoo for example can damage the scalp’s protective moisture and oil barrier and this allows other irritants to absorb more easily and causes the scalp to become dry and/or flaky. In some cases the scalp might become more oily than dry, but the root cause is often the same.
Scalp sensitivity is actually quite common, affecting around 40% of the population. So if you find yourself in this group, you're definitely not alone.
How to treat a dry flaky scalp
If your scalp is prone to being dry, flaky and/or overly oily, try avoiding hair care and shampoos that use sulphates, artificial fragrance and strong preservatives. Instead look for a pH balanced shampoo, because this avoids upsetting the scalp’s precious acid mantle.
Also look for key ingredients in your shampoo and hair care that aid scalp recovery like coconut oil, chamomile and aloe vera.
Odylique organic natural shampoos are ideal for a dry and/or flaky scalp, because they are pH balanced, don't contain harsh chemicals and do contain these key ingredients that soothe and moisturise the hair and scalp.
